France-based Malawian women’s football icon Tabitha Chawinga scored twice as Paris Saint Germain (PSG) Women swept aside third-tier side Rennes CPB 4-0 to qualify for the round of 16 in the Coupe de France Feminine on Sunday.

The brace took her tally to 11 goals in all competitions, including seven in the French Women’s top-flight league in which she is second leading scorer with seven goals, just a goal shy of the leading scorer Ada Hegerberg of Lyon FC.

In Sunday’s match, the 27-year-old striker netted her first and the Parisians second goal in the 50th minute after rounding off Rennes CPB’s goalkeeper, who had advanced into no man’s land to avert danger.

Chawinga: I have gelled with my teammates

Tabitha was on target again in the 68th minute, netting the fourth in similar fashion.

In an interview yesterday, Tabitha said she is happy to be scoring regularly.

“I believe I have now gelled with my teammates and everything seems to be working to perfection and I thank God for His blessings,” she said.

In the league, PSG are second with 25 points from 11 matches, eight short of leaders Lyon, who have played a game more in the 12-team contest.
